Singaporean Bride Practices

Singaporean wedding customs are a beautiful blend of practice and modernism. Lovers have started incorporating personalized vows, distinctive themes, and inventive venues into their ceremonies. This allows them to respect their ethnic identity while reflecting their personal style and choices.

Pre- marriage rituals are even a great part of singaporean weddings. Many couples will read a fortune teller or a geomancer to select an auspicious time for the ceremony, taking into account factors such as their Chinese horoscope signs and the lunar timeline. The choice of a time is a reflection of the woman’s respect for their elders, and shows how tradition and practicality may live harmoniously.

On the day of the wedding, households will gather for a tea service at either the couple’s or vicar’s place. This is an option for the household to provide donations to their kids, and to express their gifts. It is also usual for a young boy to bounce on the base, and roll near, to love the pair with many children.

The bridal bouquet and boutonniere are traditionally a gift from the parents asia charm to the newlyweds. They are usually made of red, white, or pink flowers with dragon or phoenix motifs, to symbolize love, luck, and prosperity. The ceremony of giving and receiving also includes a hand- tying ritual, and a hair combing ceremony.

After the ceremony, it is customary to share a toast called Yum Seng. This is a uniquely Singaporean toast, where the entire room shouts» Yum»! and holds it as long as possible before responding with» Seng». It is believed to bestow luck on the couple for their future marriage.
